Update on Seasonal Flu - Flu Clinics Start

as of 9/26/2018

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend annual influenza immunization for all children, both healthy and with high-risk conditions (asthma, diabetes, etc.) ages 6 months through 18 years.

Influenza is a serious public hazard killing more people every year than SARS, West Nile virus, and anthrax combined.  The vaccine prevents disease in approximately 70-95% of the people who receive it.  Piedmont Pediatrics encourages all children ages 6 months through 18 years to receive the flu vaccine as we are anticipating a very active flu season.  We also offer the flu vaccine to our parents on a self-pay basis.

This year we will be offering the traditional injected (shot) vaccine Fluzone.  Flu vaccines may be given during well-child exams; however all other administrations will be given at our flu shot clinics.  Flu shot clinics will start promptly when our stock arrives and will run during the following dates/times:

Tuesday mornings: 730am – 830am
Wednesday mornings: 8am-9am
Wednesday afternoons: 5pm-8pm
Thursday afternoons: 5pm-8pm
Friday mornings: 8am-9am

Appointments are required and may be made by calling our office at (540) 347-9900.

Contraindications to any flu vaccine include:
- severe egg allergy
- severe reaction after a previous dose of influenza vaccine
- history of Guillain-Barre Disease
- currently experiencing a moderate to severe illness
